I present to you, this leisurely stroll down Delco’s memory lane: If you’re a longtime Delco resident, you too will smile when you read some of these blasts from our past, some that I remembered and some contributed by my Facebook friends. The mere mention of them conjured up great sentimental memories and made me want to share. Some were fairly typical like Valley Forge Music Fair, Playtown Park, the Spectrum, Borders books, Veterans Stadium and the Bazaar of All Nations – Come on, is there anyone who doesn’t miss the unique shopping mecca of the Bazaar (For goodness sake, there is even a documentary about it!)? But other places mentioned, I have to admit, I haven’t thought of in years. Some were regional favorites, but definitely enjoyed and patronized by Delco residents. I was flooded with answers! Not everything mentioned was located in Delco. Just for fun, I asked my Facebook friends to answer this question, “What places that were in this region do you miss the most?” Almost in unison, we exclaimed, “Remember the Longhorn Ranch?” We then talked about what a fun place that was, with its gun-shooting cowgirls, to celebrate an occasion and how it’s a shame there isn’t a place like that today to take kids.Īhhh, the good old days…It got me thinking about how we attach ourselves to local places and miss some of them, even decades later after they closed their doors because of one reason or another. Recently I was going over options with a friend on where she could take her seven year old son for a birthday dinner. The buckle on my favorite pair of sandals broke off this summer and I silently reminisced how in days gone by I would have just been able to drop them off at the MacDade Mall shoemaker. For example, my scissors were recently dull when I was cutting a piece of material and I thought, “I sure miss the store at the good old Bazaar where I used to get all my scissors sharpened.” As a Delco resident, I often daydream about the glory days of our past.
